Jeff, you got me thinking a lot over the last day or so and I’ve gone from “YES, YES, YES, real journalism and honest debate are always good” to “this will never work” and back.
My worry has been that if TV and political “sports talk” theatrics are rejected, what does the audience look like? Folks who like politics-as-sports, conspiracy theories, and other entertainment “news” won’t be interested, as other responses have suggested, and those who want quality can find it with a little effort, yes?
But I think that’s too black-and-white, it’s more like fast junk food: my family tries to eat healthy and yet, after taking the kids to the pool today, I went through a drive-through and ordered three burgers simply because it was expedient and healthier options weren’t.
This is what you are getting at, yes? Provide an option that’s healthy, readily available AND palatable to the large percentage of our society without good options. I think you are onto something. I would love to help if there is anything I can do, should you push forwards.
