Why not just use a Linux Desktop? I agree Windows has improved from a dev standpoint, and this is good if someone is required to run Windows (corporate standards, etc), but outside of that, is there a reason? I put Linux on a Win7 box and a end-of-life chromebook and my family hasn’t really even noticed — it just works.
